Review: Tasty Eats Around Town: Middle Way Cafe
By: Gabriela Alcazar-Salazar and Izzy Kafar
Do you have late start this semester? Or are you tired of eating at the same few places? Let us introduce you to Middle Way Cafe. They first opened in 1994 and have been located in the heart of West Anchorage, by the Northern Lights Shopping Center ever since.
While Middle Way Cafe does not rank high in greasy, comfort food, their meals are a healthy, but tasty alternative. One of our orders consisted of the Spicy Chicken sandwich and their signature Follow Your Heart smoothie. They have multiple side options available, but this one came with chips and salsa. If I had to rate my overall eating experience I would say 6/10. The burger wasn’t very spicy at all, in fact it lacked flavor. If I had to name my favorite part I would definitely go with the smoothie. They came in 12 and 16 oz. and mine had banana, strawberry, blueberry, and apple juice. All in all Middle Way Cafe was an interesting first time try, but I wouldn’t consider it in my top spots to eat.
When you walk into the cafe the atmosphere is a mixture of calm and chaotic since it’s a quite popular place to eat. When you walk in, you see a lot of different artwork from different artist throughout the restaurant. Instead of being seated by the waiters you walk up to the counter to order your food or to pick it up if you ordered ahead of time. After that, they give you a number and you choose your own seat. The only downside is that since it gets busy, it’s hard to find seats. At the time that we went it was busy so the service wasn’t as good as it could be. They would bring us our food but only checked up on us twice. Other than that, the whole experience was pretty good and I would recommend it to those who are wanting tasty food.
The experience in the end was pretty good since it was something new that we both tried and it was enjoyable even if it had its downsides. It’s a good place to spend time with friends and enjoy your time there.
